Local Apps & Payments

Major hotels, international restaurants, supermarkets (Lotte, VinMart), and tour operators accept Visa/Mastercard. Small surcharge (2-3%) sometimes applied. American Express is rarely accepted.

Notes: 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, 100,000, 200,000, 500,000 VND. Rough rule of thumb: ignore the last three zeros (26,000 VND ≈ $1 USD at mid-2026 rates, but the rate floats — check before you travel).

Cash (VND) is required for street food, markets, local taxis, and small shops. ATMs widely available. Max withdrawal per transaction: 2-3 million VND for most foreign cards. Some local banks (Vietcombank, HSBC) allow higher limits at their own ATMs.

QR code payments via local bank apps (Vietcombank, Techcombank, etc.) and Momo/VNPay e-wallets are widely used. Vietnam has one of Southeast Asia's highest QR payment adoption rates. Foreign visitors can link some international cards.

Momo is the most popular e-wallet in Vietnam for phone top-up, bill payment, money transfer, and merchant payments. Sign-up requires a Vietnamese phone number. GrabPay is an alternative for Grab users.

Grab is the dominant super-app in Da Nang: ride-hailing (car, motorbike), food delivery (GrabFood), grocery delivery (GrabMart), and package delivery (GrabExpress). Cash and card accepted.
